“FIREFLY”

Yes, I’m a bit of a Geek.  I just got Netflix and I can watch Firefly again, I loved that show,  along with Dr. Who.  And real science shows like “Comos: A Spacetime Odyssey.  And Geek podcast.  But I like funny also like podcast Over the line with Jack and Joe or blogs like longawkwardpause.com and thechowderhead.com.

I never blew up anything in chemistry but I did hack the hospital computers to put solitaire on them for the night shift (quiet on a psych ward at night).

I have another one today, usually happens every 6 months for the last 7 years.  I HATE THEM!  At least I’m not claustrophobic anymore but I really hate the banging! So today I hate my life but tomorrow will be fine.

Einstein’s Theory

These results, using data from NASA Chandra X-Ray Observatory show Einstein’s theory is still the best game in town. I was nominated for 2 awards and had no idea what to do.  A brilliant man in Cork (http://meticulousmick.wordpress.com) who nominated me for the second one explained what I was to do but alas I couldn’t find the post of what I was to do.  My photograph isn’t beautiful like the ones he posted but it means something to me.  It’s a photograph of my 15-year-old cat, Gizmo.

Power of Names

I don’t like my name, people don’t pronounce it correctly most of the time..Luanna, except the meaning

With only one n it means Graceful battle maiden or female warrior

I changed my name when I got married both times, I have gone back to the first marriage name at my children’s request.

All my children were named after a relative…..but they were people I liked and respected.

My nickname is “girl” or “brat”, which my Dad calls me depending 🙂  and “Red” in school, my hair, really original lol.

I had a nickname that 2 childhood friends called me “LuLu” they were sisters who died way too young.  Therefore no one else may call me that name.

Sort of named after my Mom but not quite.

Names make people think of beauty, ugly, smart, belonging to certain religions, strength.

In books and stories a name can produce feeling and in life I don’t thing they mean anything in regard to the person.

THINGS I FIND JUST DUMB. AND A I’M SORRY FOR MISSING WEEKS OF OTHER BLOGGERS POSTS.

COMMERCIALS

I actually hate all of them but some really bug me.

• The Subaru one with the crashed car, where they keep saying everyone lived.  Now I love Subie’s but this one brings back horrible memories of when my son rolled my new car multiple time and ended up in a water filled ditch. When I went to the car trash lot to see if I could recover anything that was the first question I was asked, really creepy.  Car died, son fine (seat belts and air bag).

• Cadillac one with the give talking about American values and how hard we work comparing us to Europe, I will not bother to list all the stupid things about it.  It’s just wrong.
• Cereal..we have a major obesity problem in the US and these are just candy for breakfast.  What happened to non sugar-coated shredded wheat cereal or any non sugar-coated cereal.  What happened to regular oatmeal, my favorite.
• Fast food that compare themselves to real food.  Exactly what is Alaskan white fish.  Whitefish (fisheries term), a fisheries term referring to the flesh of many types of fish.  So do you really know what’s in that FRIED fish sandwich you just bought.

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN….

• Democratic Government: is by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.   WE REALLY DON’T HAVE THIS.
  
• Autocracy: a form of government in which a country is ruled by a person or group with total power.  THIS IS MORE AND MORE HOW THE US IS BEING RUN, NOT BY THE PEOPLE BUT BY THE EXTREMELY WEALTHY WHO GETS OFFICIALS ELECTED BY SUPER PACs.  CASE IN POINT, CORPORATIONS ARE NOW PEOPLE…SUPREME COURT RULING
• Parliamentary Government: a system of government having the real executive power vested in a cabinet composed of members of the legislature who are individually and collectively responsible to the legislature
• Socialism:   any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of good.   THIS IS HOW THE US MILITARY IS RUN AND  SPORTS LEAGUES (YES FOOTBALL)

  FOOD WE EAT

• We don’t find out for twenty years or so that the food (fresh, frozen and canned) has really bad stuff in it that causes cancer, birth defects etc.
• GMO’s not allowed in most of Europe but fine for us.  Clue, something might not be healthy for us.  Remember DDT.
• Food in Europe taste better!!!!!

EVOLUTION VS CREATIONISM

• Yes, you can believe in both but the people who reject evolution when there is fact vs just belief, I just don’t get this.
• People are becoming dumber for rejecting science and it shows in US test scores compared to the rest of the world.

US SCHOOL SYSTEM

• We have removed music and art education in most schools, why supposedly it takes time from real education, really, really.  I can’t say anything more because  might have a stroke.
• Removing cursive writing from schools. Why?
• Removing Physical Education.  Why?  Because we have more obese children than ever and that’s a good thing.  Back in the dark ages when I was in school we had it, in Elementary each day of the week was set up for a specific activity, Monday and Tuesday sport of the season, Wednesday was dance, variety, Thursday gymnastics, Friday was free day to do what ever you wanted from the 4 prior days, Public School.  Middle School changed by term. Senior High general PE, Sport or those of us (me included) who took advanced PE which was really tough.

There’s one thing that i know is universally true about human beings:  people love free shit.  They’ll take anything if it’s free – it doesn’t matter what it is.  Say the word “free”, even under your breath, and the cheapskates come crawling out of boxes by the thousands like warehouse mice tracking the scent of a moldy piece of cheese.

In this case, that’s a good thing!  This banner giveaway thingy was a pretty bitchin’ deal, and personally, if someone offered me up a FREE custom web banner?  I woulda jumped on that shit like Charlie Sheen on a pile of cocaine.
